‘Finals’ Test Just Around the Corner…

It occurred to me the other day that the fourth quarter of retail is a lot like the last semester of college. Will we be ready to take the last big exams?

I thought about the similarities between finals and retail while worrying one night—and actually, worrying is the first parallel. For the retailer, it’s did I buy the right merchandise, did I buy enough, can I keep the stores stocked, is the price good, and so on and so forth. When it gets close to exam time students also worry—did I study enough, can I remember everything, will there be enough time to take the exam, will it be super hard?

In retail, our customers are the professors who “grade” us. The fourth quarter is the final, and I hope we pass with flying colors with a big old A+.  Let the exams begin!
